Almost two dozen residents, tired of a lack of action from the provincial government, will be in Queens Park today rallying the installation of median barriers on the 401.
Chatham’s Alysson Storey is the driving force behind a petition calling for changes to be made.
“This issue of 401 safety in this region is actually resonating with people across Ontario,” Storey says. “I think most people in Ontario likely have driven this stretch of the 401 so it’s something that I think is really hitting home with a lot of people.”
The issue came to a head for many local residents with the death of London resident Sarah Payne and her five-year-old daughter, Freya in late August.
Chatham-Kent Essex MPP Rick Nichols will then be reading the motion and his question into the legislature.
“I will actually be reading some of those petitions in the Legislature this afternoon because the government needs to be fully aware of what’s going on here,” Nicholls says. “I’m expecting that the government will have a very well-prepared, positive message for us.”
Nicholls says he’s invited the Minister to address the crowd as well.
