ontarioA portion of the 401 is getting an upgrade. Just not in Chatham-Kent.

In response to increased traffic on the 401, the provincial and federal governments are widening the 401.

The area in question is in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, and will see the addition of 4 lanes – bringing the total to 10 lanes – for a 5 kilometer stretch.

The federal government is putting in over $96 million dollars, with the provincial government set to cover the rest of the costs.

They’ll also be introducing high occupancy lanes, which will promote carpooling and the use of public transportation.
