CK Public Health is reporting a total of five new cases of COVID-19 in Chatham-Kent on Wednesday.
Chatham-Kent now has 12 active cases.
Two of those new positive cases were confirmed in the local school communities early Wednesday morning.
The Catholic Board is reporting one positive case in the school community at UCC the Pines. The public board has confirmed a positive case among the school community at Tecumseh Public School in Chatham.
Both schools remain open.
There are now five cases of the coronavirus confirmed in the Chatham-Kent school communities as of Wednesday morning.
In addition to the two cases reported today, two positive cases were also reported at St Anne’s Catholic School in Blenheim on Monday afternoon. A service provider who works for both LKDSB and SCCDDB has also tested positive.
Two classrooms are closed at St. Anne’s and two classrooms are closed at UCC due to the positive cases.
Due to privacy considerations, no further information about the individuals testing positive can be provided.
Chatham-Kent Public Health is working closely with the school communities and are contacting any individuals (students and staff) who may have been in potential contact with the virus. Public Health is also contacting all close contacts of positive cases including fellow students and directing them to isolate at home.
The health unit says if you are NOT contacted, there is no need to isolate or be further concerned at this time.
Public Health has also listed a “Community Outbreak” on their website. The outbreak is currently affecting four active cases. According to Public Health’s website, “Community outbreaks are those that occur in a community setting that is not an institution, workplace or school. Workplaces and community settings will only be named if public notification will help to identify additional close contacts that cannot be determined through contact tracing. “
The previously listed workplace outbreak is affecting one active Chatham-Kent case.
Ontario reported 790 new cases across the province along with nine deaths. Ontario currently has a record high 6,299 “active” infections.
Lambton Public Health has no new cases on Wednesday with 9 active cases. There are three new infections in Middlesex-London and 67 active cases. Windsor-Essex is reporting minus-two new cases due to false positives and 36 active cases.
