Good news for drivers who travel through downtown Chatham.
Municipal officials say construction on the 5th Street Bridge is on schedule and the span will be reopened on May 13th.
The bridge had to be shut down last month after vandals caused extensive damage to electrical wiring and construction equipment at the site.
However, there’s still some more work to be done, the project as a whole isn’t expected to be complete until June 20th.
And the traffic tie-ups aren’t quite over yet with work on the nearby 3rd Street Bridge coming down the road. A pair of open houses are slated to be held sometime this year, although at this point no dates have been announced.
