LOCAL NUMBERS
CK Public Health is reporting six new cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday along with four recoveries. The active case count increases to 37.
One local Chatham-Kent resident remains in hospital with the virus, while a non-CK-resident remains hospitalized in CKHA’s intensive care unit.
Close contact transmission continues to be a leading factor in local exposure, with 30 of the 37 active cases connected to close contacts, while four cases are pending and three are unknown.
There are no active cases connected to the institutional outbreak in long-term care at Riverview Gardens, but the outbreak has not yet been declared “over.” A staff member was previously listed as positive and was in self-isolation.
COVID IN LOCAL SCHOOLS
On Monday, two more Chatham-Kent schools were affected by COVID-19.
A total of 102 students and 15 staff have been sent home to quarantine after two probable cases of COVID-19 at Dresden Area Central School. Public Health is reaching out to anyone considered a close contact, the school remains open.
There was also a confirmed case in the school community at the new English Catholic elementary school, St Angela Merici in Chatham. Officials with the St Clair Catholic board say the individual hasn’t been at school so no students or staff need to quarantine.
The public board continues to deal with three confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Tilbury District High School, two at Queen Elizabeth II School in Chatham, and two student cases at Sarnia’s Northern Collegiate.
All schools within both the Lambton Kent and St Clair Catholic District School Board remain open.
PROVINCIAL NUMBERS
Provincially, Ontario reported 1,676 new cases on Tuesday, with nearly 800 Ontarians in hospital with the virus.
Today’s new numbers include 588 cases in Toronto, 349 in Peel and 141 in York. The Ontario Epidemiology Report indicates 84 new cases in Windsor-Essex, 55 in Middlesex-London and six new infections in Lambton County.
Provincial officials say 333 school-related cases have been reported from Friday to Monday including 278 students and 55 staff members. 853 of the province’s 4,828 publicly-funded schools (17.67%) have confirmed at least one case of the illness, while 11 schools are currently closed due to COVID-19.
