An elderly Charing Cross man is facing several charges following an incident in Chatham.

Investigators say the victims who called police claim they heard a commotion in an alleyway off Grand Avenue East around noon on Tuesday. When they saw the accused, the man allegedly pointed a firearm at them and threatened to shoot if they got any closer.

Police found the man holding a firearm. Authorities say the man placed the weapon, identified as a pellet gun, on a chair when directed and was taken into custody without incident.

The 77-year-old is now facing charges of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, and uttering threats.

He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
