A local man has been charged after allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to an address in Chatham to investigate intimate partner violence at around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Authorities said a man allegedly threatened and assaulted his former girlfriend while destroying some of her property.

As a result, the 31-year-old was arrested and charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, and mischief under $5,000.

He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a September court date.
