Municipal officials are looking for public input on the development of an organic waste disposal program in Chatham-Kent.

Chatham-Kent Waste Management will be hosting two public information sessions to share information and gather feedback on the feasibility of an Organic Waste Diversion Program (Green Bin Program) in the municipality.

The first public engagement session will be live-streamed on the municipality’s Facebook page and YouTube channel on August 13 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

An in-person session will then be held on August 27 at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Community members are invited to join the conversation and provide feedback at one or both engagement sessions.

Municipal officials are currently examining options for curbside food waste disposal, with the aim of diverting 50 per cent of organic waste from landfills.

According to the municipality, organic waste such as food waste, oil, grease, coffee grounds, and non-recyclable paper make up around 30 per cent of residential garbage.
