Chatham-Kent residents will be winding up for a popular lawn game in support of several community initiatives.

ComeTogetherCK is holding its second annual CornTogether fundraiser on Thursday evening at Sons of Kent Brewing Company in Chatham.

The evening will feature a round-robin cornhole tournament, music, local food vendors, and a selection of Sons of Kent beer.

Around 40 teams of two have registered for the event, which will see them battle it out in a classic cornhole game, double-elimination style.

“Really, the focus of Thursday night is family, fun, friendly competition,” said Fannie Vavoulis, a founding member of ComeTogetherCK.”

The teams were also encouraged to rally pledges from family and friends leading up to the tournament. All proceeds raised from the event will support ComeTogetherCK and its initiatives, such as The Gift, Orange Shirt Pins, and the Community Shop and Wood Shop projects.

“A lot of the work we do, we focus on the personal growth of our volunteers and the growth of our community because we know this is the best place to live,” said Vavoulis.

Vavoulis added that all of the cornhole boards used in the tournament were constructed and painted by ComeTogetherCK volunteers

“They’re really little works of art,” she said. “When you see them all lined up, it’s really like you’re walking through a cornhole gallery.”

Those interested in taking part in the CornTogether tournament can register a team until check-in at 4 p.m. The first toss of the event will take place at 6:15 p.m.
