Chatham-Kent Police have made an arrest in connection to a pair of robberies in Chatham over the past week.
Authorities say a man wearing a surgical mask demanded a specific amount of money from a teller at a Lacroix Street bank shortly before 1 o’clock Friday afternoon. The suspect fled with the cash. Authorities then launched a thorough investigation involving Community Patrol Officers, the Criminal Investigation Branch, and the Forensic Unit with assistance from the OPP.
Monday afternoon, shortly before 2 o’clock, police say another robbery was reported at a Richmond Street business, during which a man wearing a storm trooper mask again demanded money from the employees. In that case, the accused left empty handed.
However, officers were able to locate the suspect walking a short distance away.
Using CCTV footage, surveillance cameras, and witness statements, both robberies were linked to the same individual.
A 49-year-old man has now been charged with disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence and two counts of robbery.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
