A Chatham man has been recognized for his exemplary service with the Canadian Armed Forces in Afghanistan.
Corporal Spencer McTavish was awarded the Vice Chief of Defence Staff Commendation during a ceremony at Handy Bros head office in Blenheim on Friday.
“Corporal McTavish maintained a positive attitude, served selflessly, and brought great credit to Canada,” the commendation read. “Despite hostile and adverse conditions, his unwavering resolve and professionalism greatly enhanced the reputation of the Canadian Armed Forces.”
The 32-year-old was posted at the Canadian Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, from July 2019 to September 2020, with the Military Police Security Service.
McTavish’s military career included four years as a reservist and eight years as a full-time member of the armed forces.
