A local environmental group is looking for volunteers to help restore a Wallaceburg nature trail.
A restoration project at Paw Paw Woods is currently underway, with the Sydenham Field Naturalists working to remove invasive species and reintroduce native plants to restore the natural habitat.
The field naturalists said invasive plants, such as Multi-Flora Rose, compete with native species and reduce the habitat available for local wildlife.
The group is currently seeking volunteers to assist with the removal of the invasive species on October 19 and October 26. Refreshments and lunch will be provided for all participants.
The native planting portion of the restoration project is expected to take place in October and November, followed by repairs to the trail itself in the spring. The Invasive Species Centre and Enbridge are financing the project.
