Additional funding is helping the Dresden Rotary Club become more inclusive.

The organization has been given a $19,300 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant, which is being put towards building an accessible washroom at the Rotary Wheelhouse on North Street for guests with disabilities.

The club will be dividing a large custodian room into an all-gender, wheelchair accessible restroom, while still leaving space for a smaller custodian’s room.

Officials say the new facilities will also allow for an increase in the building’s permissible occupancy from the current 100 people allowed in the building to 150.

“The Ontario Trillium Foundation greatly supports organizations such as Dresden Rotary,” said Rotary Club President Paul Weese. “In many cases, the projects they fund would not otherwise be possible. That is certainly the case for this one. We thank the OTF for its support and assure them, the people of Dresden, and the area that the project will extend the club’s goal of making the Wheelhouse a community hub.”

Rotary officials say the project will be complete by February 28, 2025, in keeping with the club’s agreement with the Trillium Foundation.

“I applaud the Ontario Trillium Foundation for awarding this grant to the Dresden Rotary Club, which will significantly enhance accessibility at the Wheelhouse for all community members,” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. “This $19,300 Capital grant not only expands the facility’s capacity but also demonstrates a strong commitment to inclusivity and community service.”
