Chatham-Kent Police were out in force over the Thanksgiving weekend, cracking down on dangerous drivers.
Officers conducted RIDE checkpoints as part of Operation Impact with 775 vehicles stopped between October 11th and the 14th, focusing on education and enforcement of impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs and fatigue, aggressive driving, distracted driving and the use of seat belts and child car seats.
Authorities say 112 speeding charges were laid, four suspended drivers were caught, and two impaired drivers were arrested.
Officers handed out another 21 Highway Traffic Act offences over the long weekend, and seven motorists were caught driving on closed roads.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service is reminding all motorists that although this specific campaign has come to an end, road safety remains a priority and officers will continue to focus on behaviours that put all road users at risk.
