A local farmer is supporting the mental health of his neighbours by donating recent prize winnings.
Ian Grant of Wallaceburg was recently announced as one of two winners of the Hometown Roots Family Contest, receiving up to $5,000 from Maizex Seeds and Lallemand Plant Care to support community groups of his choice.
Grant selected the Three Oaks Respite Cabin to receive $2,500. The other $2,500 was donated to the Faith Baptist Church in Wallaceburg.
The cabin aims to provide respite and mental health support to farmers and first responders who are struggling with forms of stress and anxiety.
During the 2024 growing season, Ontario farmers qualified for the Hometown Roots Family Contest by planting Maizex soybeans treated with Lalfix Proyield Liquid Soybean inoculant.
