There are more opportunities today to help Rotary International eradicate polio around the globe.
Wednesday marked the annual Pizza for Polio in Chatham. Thursday, October 24, which is the official World Polio Day, restaurants in other parts of Chatham-Kent are supporting the cause.
A portion of sales from pizzas from Bill’s International Pizza in Wallaceburg, Austino’s in Dresden, OG’s Pizza in Wheatley, Garage Restaurant in Merlin, and Naples Pizza and the Alley Pub and Grill in Tilbury will help provide immunizations for children.
Since 1985, Rotary has contributed nearly $1.2 billion and countless volunteer hours to the protection of more than two billion children in 122 countries. The disease remains endemic in two countries – Afghanistan and Pakistan — although other countries remain at risk for imported cases.
