An annual food drive organized by the Chatham-Kent ATV Club is returning this weekend for the first time since before the pandemic.
Feed the Hunger in Chatham-Kent will be held on Saturday at the Real Canadian Superstore.
Club president Vince Masse said 500 bags of food will be available at RCSS for $5 each. All of the bags that are purchased will donated to local food banks in the community. Each bag contains $12 dollars worth of food to support those in need.
Masse said the goal of this year’s campaign is to provide donations to 10 or more food banks across Chatham-Kent.
“Every town in the municipality of Chatham-Kent will hopefully benefit from this and we’re counting on the support of the public,” he said.
The Feed the Hunger in Chatham-Kent food drive began in 2017 and ran for three years before it was put on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re hoping for great success that we’ve had in the past. The food banks are in the most need ever,” said Masse. “Since the pandemic, the food banks just went into major need and now seeing the stats, just in Chatham-Kent, they’re really bad. They’re having a hard time keeping up.”
Saturday’s food drive at RCSS will run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
