RIDE Stop Leads To Charges For Chatham Man

A Chatham man is facing impaired driving charges after being stopped at a RIDE checkpoint.

Ontario Provincial Police officers were conducting the Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on the eastbound off-ramp of Highway 401 at Bloomfield Road on Saturday and stopped a passenger vehicle at around 10:30 p.m.

Following an investigation, the driver was arrested and taken to the Chatham-Kent OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, a 30-year-old Chatham man is now charged with impaired driving, driving with an alcohol level over the legal limit and driving with liquor readily available. The accused was also issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

He was later released from custody with a December court date.
