In an effort to provide care to the public while reducing the burden on the Emergency Department, Chatham-Kent’s hospital is once again opening its Seasonal Care Clinic.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, in partnership with Chatham-Kent EMS, will launch the clinic on December 10 on a temporary basis out of a trailer at the hospital’s Chatham site. The clinic will provide timely clinical services to individuals with cough, cold and flu symptoms, and other minor ailments.
Caen Suni, CKHA’s Vice President of Clinical Programs and Operations, said individuals attending the clinic will be seen on a walk-in basis.
“Patients arrive at the ED as they would otherwise, they self-identify that they want to go to the clinic, they register, and then they’re seen in the clinic for minor cases. These would include things like ear aches, rashes, but in particular, seasonal seasonal symptoms,” he said. “Inside the clinic, they can receive treatment for those conditions, prescription renewals, as well as referrals to other services as required.”
The Chatham-Kent Seasonal Care Clinic will operate Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the last registration taking place at 4:30 p.m.
This is the second year the Chatham-Kent Seasonal Care Clinic will operate at CKHA.
Based on information received during regional meetings with health officials, Suni added an increase in seasonal illness across all demographics is expected to begin in January.
“This is pretty routine but I think what we have been seeing locally and across the region is there is a comfortable amount of care that you can access right now, but I think we can expect things are going to be quite busy after the holidays,” he said.
