Children Partnering With Local Heroes For Holiday Event

Area residents can expect to see a convoy of emergency vehicles making its way through Chatham this weekend as local first responders help to ensure dozens of kids have a memorable holiday season.

Volunteers from several emergency services will be taking part in the annual Holiday with a Hero event on Saturday.

A group of 80 nominated children will be paired with a police officer, firefighter, or paramedic among others, and then provided a loaded gift card to purchase a gift for themselves and their families. After shopping, the children have breakfast with Santa while elves wrap the newly acquired gifts. They will also get the chance to spend some time having fun with bouncy castles and face painting alongside their “hero.”

The event, which aims to foster positive relationships with emergency service personnel, will include a procession of emergency vehicles. The children participating will be escorted from the shopping location on St. Clair Street to the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on Richmond Street at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Participating emergency services include the Ontario Provincial Police, the Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, and the Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue.
