With several days of wet weather behind us, officials with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority continue to keep an eye on local waterways.

The latest flood outlook shows water levels on smaller rivers and streams are falling, and the McGregor Creek Diversion Channel is currently diverting McGregor Creek flows around the city of Chatham.

Levels on the Thames River continue to rise and are expected to peak in London today and flooding is expected in low-lying river flats between Delaware and Chatham. Any flooding in downtown Chatham is expected to be limited to the sidewalk along the river and other low-lying areas that are prone to frequent flooding.

Officials say the ice sheet on the Thames River has now broken up along the entire length of the river, and while broken up ice is making its way downstream towards Lighthouse Cover, monitoring of ice conditions will continue at the mouth of the river.

Residents are reminded to avoid the river, ditches, and streams with slippery banks, broken or unstable ice, and fast moving water.
