Charges have been laid after a man and woman were spotted on a security camera trying to break into parked cars in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to an address on Wyandott Street shortly before 2 a.m. on Saturday after the owner of one of the cars saw the surveillance footage of two people methodically trying door handles in an attempt to find unlocked vehicles.

Officers responded and searched the area where they located a man and woman who were arrested.

As a result, a 34-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, both from Chatham, have been charged with trespassing at night and theft under $5,000. They were later released from custody and will answer the charges in court on April 14.
