Gold Bracelet Stolen In Online Sale Gone Wrong

An arrest has now been made after a piece of gold jewellery was stolen from an elderly Wallaceburg man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a 71-year-old man had arranged to meet a buyer through an online marketplace to sell a gold bracelet valued at $2,000 on December 6, 2024. However, when the buyer asked to view the bracelet, he suddenly grabbed the item and ran off.

The victim reported the incident to police who alerted local pawn shops. An investigation also led officers to identify a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The following day, the thief attempted to sell the bracelet at a local business. However, the man failed to provide proof of ownership and left the store.

On Tuesday, police arrested a 19-year-old man from Chatham in connection with the incident. He is now charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
