An annual campaign has broken its fundraising record to help ensure dozens of students in need have a bicycle to call their own.

Staff with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board have raised $10,000 for the fifth annual Dress Down for Wheels campaign, which was held during Catholic Education Week on May 5-9.

The funds were used to purchase 43 bikes, complete with helmets, locks, and other safety accessories for students in need.

“This campaign is a beautiful expression of who we are as a Catholic school board,” says Director of Education Lisa Demers in a news release. “Coming together as one community—every school, every department—in support of our students shows the strength of our shared mission. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”

The Dress Down for Wheels initiative invited staff across the school board to “dress down” in exchange for a donation.

School board officials said donations poured in from educators, support staff, administrators, custodians, office staff, and central team members, along with support from local unions and associations.
