Charges have now been laid in connection to a crash that killed a young child from Walpole Island First Nation.
The Ontario Provincial Police said four occupants of an SUV were rushed to hospital following the single-vehicle collision at the intersection of St Clair Parkway and West Smith Line in Sombra, shortly before 7 p.m. on April 29.
The driver of the SUV sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries, however, the three passengers suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. One of the passengers, a six-year-old from Walpole Island, was pronounced dead in hospital. The other two are still recovering in hospital but are in stable condition.
Following an investigation, police have announced that one of the passengers, a 22-year-old from Wallaceburg, faces several charges in connection with the crash. The charges include dangerous operation causing death, operation causing death, two counts of operation causing bodily harm, and two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
Following a bail hearing, the accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Sarnia on May 28.
Due to a publication ban, police will not be releasing further details about the incident.
