Two Chatham women are facing charges following a shoplifting incident at a local retail store.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a theft complaint at the store on St. Clair Street in Chatham on Friday at around 6 p.m.
Loss prevention officers at the store reported that two women paid for a few items at a self-checkout but made no attempt to pay for several items that they had concealed.
When confronted by the loss prevention officers, one of the women fled while dropping stolen items as she ran. The other woman was apprehended. Police were able to locate and arrest the other woman.
A 51-year-old woman and a 35-year-old woman, both from Chatham, are now charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
Both of the accused will answer the charges in court next month.
