Downtown Chatham Properties Vandalized

A local man is facing charges after municipal and public property was vandalized in downtown Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to a King Street West address shortly before noon on Tuesday, after a man was seen damaging landscaping, causing it to scatter across a public sidewalk. The same man also allegedly removed material from along a public walkway.

Authorities have also accused the man of being involved in a series of previous unwanted incidents at the same location on May 30.

As a result, a 51-year-old Chatham-Kent man is now charged with mischief under $5,000 and mischief by interfering with the lawful operation of property.- He has been held in custody pending a court date.
