The work continues to prevent further gas leaks in Wheatley.

Municipal officials say there will be increased activity around the monitoring well in the downtown core next week, with new testing instruments installed to determine next steps towards the final closure of the monitoring well. This process is expected to last for roughly six months.

Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue Services staff will be on site daily to perform routine checks, and officials say there is no concern for public safety associated with the ongoing testing.

However, anyone who detects or suspects gas in their home is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
