A new residential development with over 700 apartment units could soon be constructed in Chatham’s north end.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said it has received applications from York Developments to amend local official plan policies and zoning bylaw regulations to permit two 14-storey and two 12-storey buildings to be built at 770 St. Clair St., between Staples and Galaxy Cinemas.

The development would add 774 new residential units to Chatham.

“York Developments has already proven to be a great developer in our community, and I am very pleased that they have continued to invest in Chatham-Kent,” said Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff in a news release. “Chatham-Kent is growing, and I’m excited to see these new buildings take shape over the next few years.”

Chatham-Kent Council is expected to consider the property developer’s applications for the site sometime this summer. Any technical site and building approvals needed for the project would be considered before construction begins.
