Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for Chatham-Kent due to expected elevated pollution levels.

The weather agency said increasing levels of ozone cause by the current weather conditions along with residual wildfire smoke will likely result in deteriorating air quality on Tuesday.

With high pollution levels, everyone is encouraged to limit time outdoors and consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

These conditions can also cause eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough.  More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough.

Those most likely to be impacted by poor air quality are people aged 65 and older, pregnant women, infants, young children, and those with existing illnesses or health conditions.
