A Wallaceburg man has been charged following thefts from a pair of Chatham convenience stores.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a man entered a Grand Avenue West convenience store, selected merchandise and left without attempting to pay at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Shortly after, the same man went to a different convenience store on Grand Avenue West and attempted to leave without paying for more merchandise. When confronted, the man used an unspecified object to threaten another man.

Using CCTV footage of the area, officers were able to identify a suspect who was quickly arrested. While in custody, the accused became agitated and allegedly destroyed a surveillance camera in his cell.

A 21-year-old Wallaceburg man is now charged with theft under $5,000, robbery, mischief under $5,000, and two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
