Man Charged Following Firearm Incident In Wallaceburg

Charges have been laid following an armed police response in Wallaceburg involving a possible firearm.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a call about a suspected firearm on Sunday shortly after 6 p.m. and, as a precaution, officers set up specialized equipment and established containment in the area of Murray Street, King Street and Wallace Street.

“The deployment of officers with firearms was in accordance with the Ontario Use of Force model and the Service’s policies for ensuring public and officer safety,” police officials said in a news release.

Police said there was no active threat to public safety, and the situation was “brought under control without injury.”

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg man was located and arrested during the incident. He is now charged with uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

It is unknown if a firearm was recovered during the arrest.
