CK Police Cracking Down on Impaired Drivers

Chatham-Kent Police were kept busy over the weekend, responding to numerous incidents involving impaired drivers.

In one case, a Wallaceburg man was found stopped at a stop sign on Fairview Line in Harwich Township, passed out behind the wheel with tinfoil on his lap. Authorities say the accused appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The 36-year-old was arrested and charged with operation of a motor vehicle while having a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He was released with conditions and a date in court next month.

Early Sunday morning officers pulled over a vehicle on Forest Street in Chatham for suspected impaired driving, however the man behind the wheel fled the scene on foot. He was arrested a short time after and taken to the local OPP detachment for breath tests. The 40-year-old Chatham man was charged operation of a motor vehicle while having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit, impaired driving and obstructing a peace officer.

Authorities say police remain committed to ensure road safety, and encourage the public to report any suspected impaired drivers.
