Chatham-Kent has issued an advisory about possible water discolouration in Bothwell.

The municipality said customers on the Bothwell water distribution system may notice slightly discoloured water coming from their taps over the next few days, however, the safety of the water will not be affected.

The colour is a naturally occurring change in the Lake Erie raw water supply related to water temperature fluctuations and lake turnover.

The Bothwell water distribution system, which receives its water from the water treatment plant in West Elgin, will be flushed once the lake returns to normal. The discolouration is expected to clear naturally as the system replenishes with new water.

The Chatham-Kent PUC and the public health unit will continue to monitor the situation until it is resolved.
