Wheatley Water Tower To Now Include Community Symbol

The upcoming rehabilitation of Wheatley’s water tower will now include the addition of a unique symbol that is representative of its community.

The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (PUC) approved the new design for the Wheatley elevated water storage tank during a meeting on Thursday. While the tower will still adopt the municipal logo, like other tanks in Chatham-Kent, the Wheatley tank will include the addition of an anchor symbol.

During a previous PUC meeting in June, the commission amended the design standard, allowing communities to add a specific symbol to their community tank design.

The additional cost of the anchor symbol is estimated to be approximately $20,000-$25,000, which will be paid for by Hydro One ward funding, business improvement area funding, or community fundraising, at no cost to taxpayers.

Chatham-Kent has conducted multiple rehabilitation projects over the last several years to extend the lifespan of the municipality’s 10 elevated water storage tanks.

Rehabilitation of the Wheatley water tower is expected to begin sometime in 2026.
