Recently announced provincial funding is helping local youth find meaningful jobs in the community.
Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Trevor Jones says $95,864 from the Ontario government’s Skills Development Fund Training Stream has been earmarked for the Job Jedi Masters (JJM) program at the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent.
The program is designed for teens and young adults between the ages of 15 and 21 with disabilities who are receiving services through the CTC-CK and have identified employment as a personal goal. CTC officials say the program provides paid, entry-level job opportunities in a supportive and inclusive environment at the Centre.
JJM includes training and tasks in areas such as money skills, food preparation and safety, custodial and clerical work, outdoor maintenance, and customer service.
“Our employment program is a stepping stone towards future employment opportunities,” Tiffany Irwin, School Age Service Manager told CKXS News. “It is about creating real opportunities, building confidence, and helping young people reach their goals.”
Participants work on-site for up to 11 months, gaining valuable hands-on experience while developing both job-specific and transferable skills as a stepping stone to future employment opportunities.
