A local man is facing several charges after a woman was choked during an assault in Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a disturbance at an unspecified location in Chatham shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
During an investigation, authorities reviewed CCTV footage that showed a man approaching and assaulting a woman. The victim was also threatened, and a personal item was stolen.
As a result, a 36-year-old Chatham-Kent man is now charged with assault causing bodily harm (choking), uttering threats to cause death, theft under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime. The accused was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court on a separate matter.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
