Workers earning minimum wage in Ontario should expect to see an increase in their next pay cheque.

The provincial government has raised the minimum wage from $17.20 to $17.60 per hour, beginning on Wednesday. This means a worker making the general minimum wage and working 40 hours per week will get an annual pay increase of over $800.

Under the Employment Standards Act, the provincial minimum wage increases each year based on the Ontario Consumer Price Index.

Ontario’s hourly minimum wage has increased by more than $3 over the last seven years, from $14 per hour in 2018. The latest increase brings Ontario’s minimum wage to the second-highest provincial rate in Canada.
