Ongoing efforts to prevent gas emissions in downtown Wheatley are now getting additional provincial support.

The Ontario government has retained Rimkus, a qualified contractor, to investigate and remediate the presence of gas at a private property in the area of Chestnut Street and Erie Street.

The contractor will begin preparation and equipment mobilization at the site on Monday. Investigative and remediation work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

Area residents are asked to avoid the area unnecessarily while work is taking place.

A nearby gas leak behind the Wheatley library branch on Talbot Street West was plugged in early August following several detected emissions.
