Don’t miss this rare opportunity to share an intimate evening with Larry Towell and Mike Stevens!
World-renowned photojournalist Larry Towell and harmonica virtuoso Mike Stevens are making a return to the Jeanne Gordon Theatre in Wallaceburg on Tuesday, September 10 – and the show will mark the release of Towell’s new CD “Blood in the Soil”, the fifth album from the Magnum Photos veteran, who has won over 35 international awards and photographed for publications like the New York Times, LIFE and Rolling Stone.
Towell and Stevens have performed their multi-media show at the Jeanne Gordon Theatre once before to a sold-out audience. Towell presents images of his photography, recites poetry and tells stories from a career that has seen him document major world issues like the Nicaraguan Contra War, the disappeared of Guatemala, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the 911 terrorist attack. Stevens, who is one of the absolute world’s best harmonica players and has over 300 appearances at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, ccompanies the award-winning photojournalist.
The show is special because Towell is from Wallaceburg, was raised just outside the community and attended school there.
The show is being presented by the Wallaceburg and District Council for the Arts and is not part of its regular series. “I was approached by Larry a couple of months ago to see if we were interested in presenting him and Mike again,” said Arts Council member John Gardiner. “I just totally jumped at the chance. Larry has performed similar shows in Toronto, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and other world centres. It’s a huge honour to be able to host it in Wallaceburg – and we’re the CD release party for Larry’s latest project, “Blood in the Soil”.
