Supporting Childhood Literacy in Wheatley

A program aimed at helping children improve their reading and writing is expanding.

A new Early Literacy Station has been installed at the Wheatley branch of the Chatham-Kent Public Library, thanks to support from Leamington-based UE Enclosures.

The station includes child-friendly dedicated computers with child-sized keyboards and mice that provide safe, interactive, and educational digital learning. Each station comes loaded with French and English educational games that foster foundational literacy and math skills such as letter and number recognition, phonics, rhyming, and storytelling.

The Early Literacy Station is set up on an accessible table, allowing easy access at a height suitable for each patron. The station is available on a first come, first-served basis during regular library hours.

Two new Early Literacy Stations were added to library branches in Chatham and Tilbury earlier this year.
