Conservation officials are warning of further flooding in downtown Chatham.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority said last week’s warm weather caused melting snow and rain, raising water levels on the Thames River. While high water levels peaked in London over the weekend, levels are expected to peak in Chatham on Tuesday afternoon.

The sidewalk along the river in the downtown is currently flooded over, and water levels are expected to continue to rise until later in the day.  Further flooding over Simcoe Lane under the Fifth Street Bridge is also possible.

Area residents are encouraged to use caution and avoid the river, ditches and streams as slippery banks, unstable ice conditions, and fast-moving cold water can be dangerous.
