Two local women are facing charges following a shoplifting incident in Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said two women attended a retail store on St. Clair Street on Tuesday shortly before 9 p.m. and began concealing merchandise.
A loss prevention officer witnessed what was happening and called police.
Officers arrived and arrested the suspects after they allegedly left the store without making an attempt to pay for the merchandise.
A 54-year-old woman and a 28-year-old woman, both from Chatham, have each been charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. The older suspect was held in custody for a bail hearing, while the younger woman was released with conditions and a future court date.
