School Suspends Staff Member Over B.C. Shooting Video

A staff member at a Chatham elementary school has been placed on leave after posting a video about the tragic school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C.

In a letter sent to staff and families on Thursday, the St. Clair Catholic District School Board said a member of the school staff at St. Angela Merici Catholic School posted the video last week following the B.C. shooting that claimed the lives of eight people.

While details about the video have not been released, school board officials said it was posted without their knowledge, and it has since been reported to police.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service has not responded to requests for information about the incident.

The staff member who posted the video has been placed on leave while the incident is being investigated, and they will not be permitted on school board property during this time.

“Our primary concern will always be with the safety and well-being of all our St. Clair Catholic students and staff,” the board said in its letter.

The school board is unable to provide additional personnel information about the staff member, including their position at St. Angela Merici.
