SIU Investigating After Three Injured In Crash

The province’s police oversight agency is investigating following a collision in St. Clair Township involving a police cruiser.

The Ontario Provincial Police said an SUV and a police cruiser collided at the intersection of Petrolia Line and Kimball Road on February 13 shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Two members of the Lambton County OPP Mobile Crisis Response Team, an officer and a crisis worker, who were in the police vehicle, were taken to hospital, along with the driver of the SUV. All three were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for several hours to allow for an investigation.

The OPP cannot provide further information, as the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now investigating the collision.

The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency in Ontario that investigates any incident involving police that has resulted in death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm, or allegations of sexual assault.
