Charges have been laid after a man used an axe to break into a Chatham home.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a Harvey Street address on Sunday at around 12:30 p.m., after multiple nearby residents reported hearing the sound of breaking glass. A man was also seen trying to gain entry by knocking and banging on the front door.
Authorities said the man caused significant damage to the property, including using a large axe to break a rear window before entering the home.
A suspect was located inside the home and was arrested.
As a result, a 31-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been charged with break-and-enter and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
