Police are warning the public about an ongoing scam making the rounds in Chatham-Kent.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service has received multiple reports of fraud attempts over the past two weeks, primarily targeting elderly residents.
In each instance, a suspect claims to have completed roof or chimney work and requests cash payments. Victims have confirmed that no work was completed on their homes.
Authorities are reminding the public to use caution when dealing with individuals making unsolicited house calls or offering door-to-door services that were not requested. Never provide cash to unknown people and verify all claims of completed work before making payment.
Be sure to ask for proper identification and company information, and avoid feeling pressured to pay immediately.
Anyone who may have been a victim of this scam is asked to contact police at 519-436-6600.
