The search is on for Chatham-Kent’s next Queen and Princess of the Furrow.
The annual competition, held during the Chatham-Kent Plowing Match, is open to girls aged 17 to 23. Participants are required to give a short speech on agriculture, be interviewed by a panel of 3 judges, and plow a parcel of land.
The Princess of the Furrow Competition will take place the same day for girls aged 11-15. Princesses won’t need to plow, but are required to give a short speech on any topic related to agriculture.
The Princess of the Furrow is a one year term, while the Queen of the Furrow will serve for two years. The candidates ultimately crowned will attend community events representing the Chatham-Kent Plowmen’s Association, including the next International Plowing Match and Rural Expo being held in Brigden.
This year’s CK Plowing Match takes place August 8 at J&E Meats on Oakdale Road in Croton.
