The province’s police oversight agency has ended an investigation into the arrest of a man in Corunna who suffered a concussion.
The Special Investigations Unit said officers with the Ontario Provincial Police were called a Corunna home during the evening of May 25, 2025, after a woman was assaulted.
Following an investigation, officers attempted to arrest a man. However, when police attempted to cuff him, the man attempted to break the officer’s hold. Officers grabbed the man and pulled him away from the door, leading to a struggle.
The man was ultimately taken into custody but was later diagnosed with a concussion in the hospital.
Following an investigation, SIU Director Joseph Martino has since determined that there were no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s arrest and injury.
The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency in Ontario that investigates any incident involving police that has resulted in death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm, or allegations of sexual assault.
