Public Input Sought On Proposed ‘Renoviction’ Bylaw

Chatham-Kent is looking for public input on its proposed bylaw to regulate renovation-related evictions in the municipality.

CK administration is providing residents with two opportunities to provide feedback on a draft Rental Renovation Licence By-law during an online engagement forum on the Let’s Talk Chatham‑Kent website and an upcoming public meeting.

On February 9, 2026, Chatham-Kent Council directed administration to create the bylaw to regulate the use of N13 notices in response to growing concerns that the notices are being issued inappropriately.

In Ontario, landlords may issue N13 notices when a unit “must be vacant for extensive renovations, demolition, or conversion.”

Feedback received online and through the public meeting will be summarized and presented to council with the draft Rental Renovation Licence By-law on June 22.

The online engagement forum is now open, and public feedback can be submitted online until May 20 by clicking here. The public meeting will be held at the Chatham Cultural Centre on May 13 at 6 p.m.
